The Paris Marathon, officially the Schneider Electric Paris Marathon, is a gem in the global marathon calendar. It is one of several marathons that should be part of the Abbott World Marathon Masters series. I visited it in 2014 to watch Kenenisa Bekele finish his debut marathon. This year, 55,000 runners finished the race across the historic city.
Schneider Electric, a power company in 140-plus countries, has been the sponsor for over a decade. Scheider does a fun expo, showcasing how a modern home could look with current power technology.
New European marathon record for number of finishers
PARIS (FRA): 55,499 runners completed Sunday’s Schneider Electric Paris Marathon. At the start line, there were nearly 57,000. The new finishers record as last year they were 54 175. It is also the biggest in Europe and second biggest after the New York City Marathon last year with 55,638. At the start, 51% were first-timers on this legendary distance. French runner Axel tried to break the world record for the event in a suit and tie, held by another Frenchman since 2023. At 2:49, he did not achieve the record of another Frenchman, Emmanuel Bonnier, in 2:40:52 from September 2023. From L´Equipe.
