1. The 53rd TCS NYC Marathon was a fantastic example of how important competition is in our sport!
2. Sheila Chepkurui out-sprinted Hellen Obiri and Vivian Cheruiyot in a battle to the finish in New York. Chepkirui ran 2:22:35 to Obiri (2:22:49) to Cheruiyot (2:25:21). A masterful run race!
3. Abdi Nageeye wins the NYC Marathon in 2:07:39, after a DNF in Paris. Evans Chebet, winner at Boston and NYC, was second in 2:07:45. Albert Korir (2:08:00) was third and Tamirat Tola, defending champion, 2:08:12 and Geoffrey Kamworor in fifth, 2:08:50.
4. Top American women in NYC? Sara Vaughn in 6th (2:26:56), who had covid three weeks ago, Jessica mcClain in 8th (2:27:19), and Kellyn Taylor was tenth in 2:27:59. Des Linden was 11th in 2:29:32, a very good race for Des!
5. Connor Mantz (6th, 2:09:00), Clayton Young (7th, 2:09:21) and CJ Albertson (10th), 2:10:57 were top US finishers in Big Apple.
6. Remember, Fred Lebow brought the NYC Marathon to Five Boroughs in 1976, it was supposed to be a one off! In 2024, 55,6464 runners crossed the finish line in Central Park, making NYC the largest marathon in the world!
7. The Staten Island Running Association held its annual dinner on Wednesday night. Among the sport’s stars were Joan Benoit Samuelson, Steve Jones, Bill Rodgers, Bob Beamon, Jim Spivery, Tony Staynings, and Dave Wottle!
8. At the NYAC Luncheon on October 31, Jeff Benjamin updated RBR that at the luncheon were Matt Centrowitz, Jim Spivey,
Joan Benoit-Samuelson, Tracy Sundlun, Bill Rodgers, Dave Wottle. This is an annual affair as well!
