The Challenging Road to Paris, the third in a series: Hillary Bor
Last month, Hillary Bor returned to the site of his disastrous race in 2023.
At the Rabat Diamond League last year, with less than 200 meters to go, the two-time Olympian jumped over the last water jump hurdle and awkwardly broke his foot, pretty much ending his season.
But after a year of rest, rehab, and dedication, Bor returned to the scene this year and opened his season with a time of 8:13.30, notching the Olympic standard in Rabat.
This past weekend, Bor easily won the BMC Manchester Track 5K in a time of 13:29.79!!
Here are 5 quick questions for Hillary Bor!
RunBlogRun, 1) How is your training coming along?
Hillary Bor: “Training is going well. After I broke my 5th metatarsal in May last year, I took 4 months to heal. I started training in October. Since then, everything has been going extremely well. Of course, my foot is not full heel yet, and I have to take some precautions.“
RunBlogRun, 2) What are your scheduled races prior to the Olympic Trials?
Hillary Bor: “Two days ago, I did my first track race since last year in Rabat. I was fortunate to run the Olympic standard (8:13.30).
I am currently in Manchester, UK. I am going to run a 5km this Saturday, then Stockholm on June 2nd, and then the Olympic Trials.”
RunBlogRun, 3) Have you changed anything in your training for the Olympic year?
Hillary Bor: “ I really don’t change anything. Consistency is the key. We have repeatedly done the same training since I joined Coach Scott Simmons in 2013. The only difference is that 10 years later, the training has gotten faster. But it’s the same training.”
RunBlogRun, 4) Who comprises your support system, and why are they important?
Hillary Bor: “My support system is my family. I have two kids, 6 and 4, and those are the people who keep me hungry to get better every day. And, of course, my wife, my immediate family (brothers, sisters, and parents), my teammates, and my Coach. I couldn’t do it without my sponsors, HOKA, USATF, and the USATF Foundation!”
RunBlogRun, 5) Any advice you’d like to give out there, especially to young runners?
Hillary Bor: “Be consistent, be patient, and trust the process.”
