KUORTANE (FIN, Jan 6): European champion Wilma Murto opened her winter season with a national indoor record 4.81m in the pole vault. She also tried three times at 486, which would be an overall national record. In her series: 445/1, 460/2, 475/1, 481/1.

Wilma Murto took the European outdoor champs in 2022. She followed up in 2023 with the European Indoor Gold and then the bronze at the Budapest World Championships in August 2023.

Wilma Murto is a wonderful example of the amazing global talent in the women’s pole vault. What is exciting about Wilma Murto is that she reaches such great heights in the championship competitions. Some athletes are made for the Big meets, and Wilma Murto seems to be one of those athletes. We will be seeing her for many years to come.
