Mondo Duplantis opened his outdoor season in Los Angeles on May 27, 2023.
This writer sat behind the pole vault and watched Mondo sign autographs, take selfies, and say hello to at least 2 dozen athletes while he warmed up for the pole vault, munched a snack, had some water, and chatted with the pole vaulters in this competition.
Mondo Duplantis won in LA on May 27, clearing 5.91 meters. In Hengelo on June 4, he cleared 6.11 meters, a new World Leader. On June 15, in Oslo, Norway, Mondo cleared 6.01 meters.
On June 27, at the Ostrava Golden Spike, Mondo Duplantis cleared 6.12m, a new world leader! Just five days later, on July 2, 2023, Mondo Duplantis cleared 6.05 meters and made three game attempts (the last being the best), at 6.23m, a new world record. He did not clear 6.23m, but he will.
As of this day (July 4), Mondo has broken the WR six times. He will break it many more times.
