Well, it is happening!
On May 9, it was announced that Marcell Jacobs and Fred Kerley will be competing against each other at the Florence Golden Gala Meeting on June 2. Then, on May 10, it was announced that the Olympic champion and World Champion will be competing against each other twice, the first time five days prior to the Florence Meeting in Rabat!
This will be a fun rivalry! Jacobs and Kerley are two of the finest sprinters in the world right now, and this rivalry is good for the sport!
There was some trash-talking, and when I was in Doha last week, Fred Kerley was asked about the possible races against the Olympic champion. Fred Kerley pushed this challenge on social media, so this should be a lot of fun to watch and should bring in a huge television audience.
Stay Tuned.
RABAT (MAR): Following the recent announcement that they will compete at the Florence Diamond League in June, organizers have confirmed that Fred Kerley and Marcell Jacobs will race against each other over 100m at the Rabat Diamond League on 28 May. It will be the first time the World Champion and Olympic Champion have raced each other since the Olympics final in Tokyo in 2021. Diamond League Champion Trayvon Bromell, Ferdinand Omanyala, Andre De Grasse, Yohan Blake, Akani Simbine, World U20 Champion Letsile Tebogo and local athlete Machmour Chakir will also compete at the second Diamond League meeting of the season.
Fred looked me straight in face on Thursday and said, “I like to compete”, #dohaDL, #diamondleague, #PUMA, @qatarathletics, @SeashoreQRT https://t.co/pJ9xJWQqml
