The Stanford Invitational has been one of my favorite events for 43-plus years. I ran the 10,000m in 1980. For most of the 1990s and up until 2018, I enjoyed the Stanford Invite as one of my openings meets of the outdoor season each year. The distance carnival, held on Friday night, was always a treat.
