This is Sunday, March 26, 2023.
This is Week 2, Day 7 of the 2023 RunBlogRun Spring Training for Middle Distances.
Sunday, most weeks, is about the long run. Consistency is key to your success. Long runs, two other hard days (hill, tempo, fartlek or repetitions) can be your other hard days, and recovery days are key.
Today, warm up, and go 75-90 minutes relaxing, with a few friends, in a park, on trails, just somewhere without a lot of car or bike traffic. Keep the pace modest and laugh big; that is why we suggest you spend time with teammates.
I remember long runs along the Guadeloupe River in downtown San Jose. Pete Dolan took me out there first with Bob Flores, Nick Pelinga, and Sean O’Brien. I recall running all the way to Alviso (nine bridges) with Chris Sakamaki, Sean Ayers, Brendan O’Flaherty, and John Maloney. After that, Paul Gyrorey and Gerhard Behrens, and I would cruise the Guadeloupe River trail, with its hard-packed dirt and view of the San Jose Airport, now Mineta International.
Make some memories, have some conversations to remember, and 40 years later, tell someone about it!
