This is the EME News update on the Metz Moselle Athelor meeting (WIT Silver), which had tremendous performances from Femke Bol and Yaroslava Mahuchikh.
WL for Bol 49.96 and Mahuchikh 202
METZ (FRA, Feb 11): Femke Bol of the Netherlands entertained the crowds of the Metz Moselle Athlelor meeting (WIT Silver). She clocked 49.96 in the 400m, not only the World lead but also a national record for the Netherlands and fourth performer in the world’s all-time lists (fastest since 2004), just 37 hundredths off Jarmila Kratochvilova’s world record. An hour later, she continued with a 200m win in 22.87 NR. Ukraine’s Yaroslava Mahuchikh improved her Word lead to 202 on the second attempt and failed three times at 207. Second Britt Weerman equalled her NR with 196, defeating another Ukrainian jumper Yuliya Levchenko (192). Second, in the 400m Bol’s heat was Ireland’s Sharlene Mawdsley in 51.91, while Anna Kielbasinska of Poland won another heat in 51.49, who was also second in another 200m heat with 23.17 behind Netherland’s Lieke Klaver in 22.97. Americans Sam Kendricks and Chris Nilsen won ex aequo the pole vault with 582 ahead of Belgium’s Ben Broeders (577), and US Jacob Wooten, Thibaut Collet, and Ethan Cormont, all with 572. Isayah Boers of Netherlands was fastest over the 200m (20.89), his compatriot Liemarvin Bonevacia won his 400m heat (46.29), but in another heat Alexander Doom of Belgium clocked 46.06 PB over Lionel Spitz of Switzerland (46.14 PB, Istanbul standard). Also from Belgium, Ismael Debjani won the fast 1500m race in 3:37.25 ahead of Louis Gilavert’s 3:37.26 PB, Samuel Zeleke of Ethiopia (3:37.94), and Italy’s Federico Riva (3:37.98). Nine runners finished the 3000m race with a sub-7:50 performance, victory for Yann Schrub 7:40.54 over Bastien Augusto 7:42.10. Marquis Dendy of the USA won the long jump with 801 over Roumania’s Gabriel Bitan 794 and Halimah Nakaayi of Uganda was best at the 800m with 1:59.18 over Spain’s Lorea Ibarzabal in big PB 2:01.00. Top five women clocked sub-8:50 over the 3000m, with a victory for Ayal Dagnachew in 8:42.47, Italy’s Ludovica Cavalli was fourth in 8:44.40 PB, while her compatriot Nadia Battocletti did not finish the race. Victories also for Benjamin Robert in the 800m (1:47.04) and Mateusz Przybylko of Germany in the high jump (224).
