ELGOIBAR (ESP, Jan 8): Eritrea’s Rahel Daniel completed the weekend double by winning the 79th Elgoibar Juan Muguerza cross country 7.6km race, WCTT Gold, in 25:43. Kenya‘s Edina Jebitok started the race very fast and finished second in 25:51 ahead of Winfred Yavi from Bahrain (25:58), another Kenyan Margaret Kipkemboi (26:16), Burundian Francine Niyonsaba (26:30) and by a wide margin the best European at six Poppy Tank of Great Britain (27:29). Olympic 10k champion Selemon Barega of Ethiopia won the men’s 10.8km race in 33:14. The Spaniard Carlos Mayo led the race in the first round, but after twelve minutes Barega took the initiative and won by a margin over Bahrain’s Birhanu Balew (33:27), Adel Mechaal from Spain overcame his bad moments and finished third (33:39).
