Rahel Daniel and Selemon Barega win 79th Elgobiobar Juan Muguerza XC (WCCT Gold)!

The World Athletics Cross Country tour comprises 24 events. Cross Country is one of our oldest traditions in the sport of athletics. The Juan Muguerza cross-country is one of the most iconic cross-country events and is held in cross-country crazy Spain.

ELGOIBAR (ESP, Jan 8): Eritrea’s Rahel Daniel completed the weekend double by winning the 79th Elgoibar Juan Muguerza cross country 7.6km race, WCTT Gold, in 25:43. Kenya‘s Edina Jebitok started the race very fast and finished second in 25:51 ahead of Winfred Yavi from Bahrain (25:58), another Kenyan Margaret Kipkemboi (26:16), Burundian Francine Niyonsaba (26:30) and by a wide margin the best European at six Poppy Tank of Great Britain (27:29). Olympic 10k champion Selemon Barega of Ethiopia won the men’s 10.8km race in 33:14. The Spaniard Carlos Mayo led the race in the first round, but after twelve minutes Barega took the initiative and won by a margin over Bahrain’s Birhanu Balew (33:27), Adel Mechaal from Spain overcame his bad moments and finished third (33:39).
