Long runs were one of my favorite workouts. I recall a run-up in the Santa Cruz mountains, doing our relaxed fifteen-mile run the day after a race. We were followed the entire run by an Irish Setter, who kept up with us with no problem as we ran under the wonderful redwood trees.
The dog joined us for runs off and on for several years. I recall running a 20 miler out there, all by my lonesome, and my partner was the Irish setter, who just stayed right next to me for the two-plus hours.
Your workout today is warm up, a 70-80 minute long run, and a relaxed cool-down.
