Today is a hill workout. Hill workouts combine strength and speed.
Hills are a great way to get into shape. At Foothill College, where I coached with my friend, Joe Mangan, Joe’s secret weapon was hills. He used hills to get our runners who were not in shape in shape in three to four weeks (well, kind of). Joe also used hills to get athletes who could not handle speed to work well to use hill repeats.
Your workout today is a warm-up, 60-minute hill session, with 10 times 2 minutes uphill, 3 minutes jog, then a slow cooldown. Rehydrate and change into dry clothes.
