Today is Wednesday, September 28, 2022. It is a recovery day and the third day of Week five of our 2022 Fall Cross Country Training & Racing program.
Every great athlete faces adversity. Eliud Kipchoge, after making Kenyan Olympic and World teams in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011 did not make the 2012 Olympic team at either the 5,000m or 10,000m. It was then that Eliud moved to the marathon.
The late Steve Prefontaine was shocked when he did not make state meet his sophomore year in track. He rededicated himself to running and broke the high school record for the 2 mile, as well as becoming one of the top high school runners of his generation.
When you have a tough day, a tough week, a tough month, slow down and ask yourself, what is going on? Talk to your coach, and take some time to reflect.
Your workout for today, a Wednesday, is a gentle warm up, 45-55 minute run, with 6 times 150 meter stride outs, each one getting a little faster, plus a slow cooldown.
