Consider this. You race against the same athlete for nine years, and each time they finish first, you are second. Finally, after nine years, you win a big race!
Emil Zatopek battled at the Olympics and European champs for nine years. From 1948 to 1956. In 1956, Alain finally beat Emil, over the marathon distance, taking gold for France, with Emil, the defending champion in sixth. Alain waited for his great friend, Emil, and shared with him that he had become a father just before the race (his coaches had held the info from him! His daughter’s name? was Olympia).
How would you be about winning after nine years or facing a competitor?
Today’s workout, warm up, 45-50 minute run, six-time 150 meter stride outs, cooldown.
