Daniel Haugh lead three Americans into the final of the 2022 World Athletics Outdoor Championships in the Men’s hammer throw. This was one of only two times that the hammer has been featured in Hayward Field inside the field.
The hammer cage was developed by former Oregon throws coach and 1996 Olympic silver medalist Lance Deal, one of the coolest, kindest, and one of the most zen throwers that this writer knows.
Daniel Haugh led group A in qualifying with a fine of 79.34m.
Overall, Daniel Haugh, who is the 2022 US Champion at the men’s hammer throw, finished 8th in the final in 78.10m, as Pawel Fajdek, the icon of the event, went to gold, his fifth World Championships in a row. Wojciech Nowicki, the Olympic champion, missed on winning the World Champs once again. Pawel Fajdek of Poland won the hammer throw in a throw of 81.98m, the world leader.
The following interview, done on July 15, 2022, was recorded as part of European Broadcasting’s Euro Radio program.
