RunBlogRun’s Larry Eder interviewed Abby Steiner on July 14, 2022, the day PUMA announced signing the sprint star from the University of Kentucky! Abby Steiner was lovely, and PUMA was quite gracious. Listen for Bjorn Gulden, CEO at PUMA, tells me that Abby is “the future of the sport!”
So, yesterday morning, I received an email from PUMA wondering if I was open to an interview with Abby Steiner. I replied with an affirmative answer.
Immediately after that response, PUMA released its press release on Abby Steiner signing with PUMA. Our story is here.
Abby Steiner had amazing NCAA outdoor champs. Abby took 4th in the 100m (10.90), won the 200m in then PB of 21.80, and anchored the University of Kentucky to gold in the 4x400m. Abby is coached by Tim Hall.
Less than three weeks later, Abby Steiner won the 200-meter title at the USATF Champs to make the World Championships team.
Abby Steiner was managing interviews most of the day, and she was most gracious with RunBlogRun. I told her off the tape that I had met her parents in the stadium after her USATF win when I asked a couple, “What was your favorite race?” and the women said, “Oh, the one my daughter won!”
PUMA signed her and announced it yesterday. Abby and I spoke for about fifteen minutes. Here are the five minutes that we recorded. Special thanks to Abby Steiner and PUMA. I also remind you to watch for Bjorn Gulden, CEO at PUMA AG, who told me that Abby is “the future of the sport.”
Special thanks to Abby Steiner, Bjorn Gulden, CEO of PUMA AG, and of course, Kerstin Neuber, PUMA’s Head of Communications, for making this interview a reality.
Special thanks to Brian Eder, co-founder of RunBlogRun on getting this interview on the site.
