Today is Wednesday, day 3 in the fourth week of the 2022 RunBlogRun Summer Cross Country Mileage Program.
Today is the seventieth anniversary of one of the most incredible performances of all time. In July 1952, Emil Zatopek, the Czech Locomotive, won the 10,000m, then the 5,000m, and then his first marathon. Halfway the the marathon, Emil asked the WR holder in the marathon, Jim Peters, ” Jim, is this a good pace?”. Peters took the bait and took off, only to collapse before 20 miles. Emil went on to win and entered the stadium as his wife took gold in the javelin!
