Shericka Jackson finally won her WC gold in the 200 meters! Shericka has won six medals at World Champs, including medals at 400m, 100m, 4x100m, and 4x400m, but never, ever an individual gold at a World Champs!
And now, with her fine 21.45, Shericka Jackson took gold, with Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce taking the silver and Dina Asher-Smith taking the bronze.
Of her performance, Shericka had this to say:
“I am feeling great once I came out and put on the show. The fastest woman alive, the national and championships record, I cannot complain. I know that Shelly is probably one of the best curve runners in the world, so I knew she was going to go hard. I knew that I want to get gold, but I had to run the curve as hard as possible. I know I am strong and fast in coming home, so I knew when I eventually catch up with her, I could take it. I never wanted to catch on with anyone; I wanted to execute the best race possible, and I think seeing my personal best, I cannot complain. I was not thinking about any time or any records. Every time you come back, you have to work harder. Each round, I go out and want to execute better and better. It feels very good to be in the prominent company of these elite runners. Actually, this is my first individual gold at the World Championships, so I am just grateful. I just want to say thanks to everybody, my sponsors, my family, and my compatriots who are here, and I see the flags all over here.”
What follows is the video from NBC on how Shericka Jackson won her gold medal. It is truly inspiring!
