This is Week 4, day five of the 2022 RunBlogRun Summer Cross Country Mileage Program. Give us eight weeks, and we will get you ready for fall cross country!
The World Championships were held July 15-24, 2022, in Eugene, Oregon. The Champs were delayed one year due to COVID. Both 1,500 meters were exciting and fast races! On the women’s side, Guday Tsegay went out at WR pace, trying to break WC gold Faith Kipyegon. Gudaf took the silver, and Faith took the gold, with Laura Muir taking the bronze.

On the Men’s side, Jake Wightman of Team GBR surprised many with his bold run from 350 meters out. When asked, his coach/father noted that the way to sprint against Jakob Ingebrigtsen was to get the jump on him, meaning one has to begin sprinting earlier to counter Ingebrigtsen’s speed. Jake did just that and was rewarded with his first global gold, giving Team GBR its first World Champs 1,500m gold since Steve Cram won in 1983!
Your workout today, Friday, July 19, 2022, is warm up, 45 minutes of relaxed running on trails, and six times 150-meter stride outs, then a cool down.
