Cross country is a big part of all middle-distance and long-distance runner’s regimens. The late Lee Evans, the former world record holder at 400 meters and Mexico city gold medalist, once told me that Coach Bud Winter at San Jose State made the long sprinters run 4-mile NCAA cross country!
