Today is the third day of week 2 in our RunBlogRun Summer Cross Country Mileage Program. It is a recovery day and recovery days are key to your health and fitness, so keep it relaxed!
The World Championships are upon us. This will be my thirteenth Outdoor World Champs. I began going in 1995. It is a wondrous event.

In 1995, I witnessed a global crowd gasp at Jonathan Edwards in the triple jump, setting world records with ease as if it was an all-comers meet. Michael Johnson’s 200m/400m double showed just a hint of what we would see from MJ over the years.
The women’s 400-meter hurdles were enthralling as Kim Batten and Tonja Buford Bailey went 1,2, both under the WR in the hurdles at the time.
I interviewed Allen Johnson, Tony Jarrett, and Roger Kingdom, the gods of the 110m hurdles at the time and they were fascinating.
But my wildest memory was going to a post-event party, hosted the by Denmark, for their amazing 800m runners, Wilson Kipketer. Karlsberg beer had introduced a beer, Black Gold in his honor and the party, on a rooftop of a restaurant in Goteborg was a memorable evening.
Over the years, I was fortunate to meet Wilson and recall a wonderful interview in 2014 at the World Half marathon, discussing coming back from injuries. He had come down with Malaria and had to be patient to take the time to rebuild his fitness. Wilson told me that was hard for any athlete, yet along a World Champion. We laughed about that comment.
Your workout today, Wednesday, July 13, 2022 is a warm up, 40 minutes of easy running, and 4 x 150m stride outs, keep it brisk, but do not push it, then a nice cool down.
