This is the beginning of the second week of the 2022 RunBlogRun Summer Cross Country Mileage Program. This week 2, day one.
Today, we are going to write about Sir John Walker. John Walker was the first man to break 3:50 for the mile. Walker was also the 1976 Olympic champion at 1,500 meters. And the coolest stat is that he was the first athlete to run over 100 sub-4-minute miles in his career, actually having run 135 sub-four-minute miles! John Walker ran 100-mile weeks in his build-up. Near the end of his career, he kept his training at 30-minute sessions as he suffered from compartment syndrome for several years. Just a total class act, and one of the most respected competitors in the sport.
