World Athletics Continental Tour Fields Set For 112th Drake Relays And Will Air Live On CBS Sports Network Saturday Afternoon
Thirteen events in the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver Level have been announced and, for the first time in its history, CBS Sports Network will air the Drake Relays presented by Xtream, powered by Mediacom, live from Drake Stadium from 1-3 pm CT on Saturday, April 30.
“Saturday will be the 55th consecutive Saturday sellout of the Drake Relays so we know not everyone who will want to attend America’s Athletic Classic this year will be able to,” Franklin P. Johnson Director of the Drake Relays Blake Boldon said. “Working with CBS Sports Network is a wonderful opportunity to showcase our terrific event and outstanding elite fields to a national audience. We can’t wait to show the rest of the country the incredible performances that will occur in Des Moines on Saturday.”
Bill Spaulding will bring his play-by-play talent to the broadcast, Dan O’Brien and Jenny Simpson will provide analysis, and Brad Wells will be trackside for post-race interviews.
Highlighting the schedule of events is the Xtream Sprint Series featuring Olympic medalists in all four hurdle events.
Among the elite athletes scheduled to compete Saturday afternoon in the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver Level competition program are three gold medalists from last year’s Tokyo Olympics (Ryan Crouser, men’s shot put; Hansle Parchment, men’s 110 meter hurdles; Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, women’s 100 meter hurdles), two silver medalists from last year’s Olympics (Dalilah Muhammad, women’s 400 meter hurdles; Chris Nilsen, men’s pole vault), and two bronze medalists from Tokyo (Alison Dos Santos, men’s 400 meter hurdles; Ese Brume, women’s triple jump (she will be competing in long jump at Drake Relays)). All are scheduled to compete in the 1-3 pm CT window on CBS Sports Network.
“Just like the high school athletes already underway Friday morning, these world class athletes won’t be deterred by any conditions,” Boldon said. “We are set for a historic edition of America’s Athletic Classic and fans won’t want to miss this lineup.”
It had previously been announced that RunnerSpace.com and USATF.tv are streaming approximately 25 hours of Drake Relays coverage from Thursday to Saturday.

About the Drake Relays
The Drake Relays presented by Xtream powered by Mediacom has served as “America’s Athletic Classic” since its first running in 1910. The annual competition, hosted by Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa, is recognized internationally as a destination for the world’s premier track & field athletes across multiple professional and amateur divisions. In 2020, the Drake Relays was named a Silver Level event on the World Athletics Continental Tour, one of only two meets in the United States to earn Silver Level status. In addition to its signature stadium competition, the Drake Relays includes two marquee road running events open to the general public — the Grand Blue Mile presented by Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield and the Drake Road Races.
