The USATF Bermuda Games happened today, on April 9, 2022. While the wind was insane, the stands were full and the races were competitive. Watching it on Peacock TV, this writer enjoyed the competition but was frustrated that there was little discussion of why Grant Holloway, one of the highlighted athletes of the meet.

Camacho-Quinn 12.67 WL in strong wind
DEVONSHIRE (BER, Apr 9): Top result despite wind difficulties at the inaugural USATF Bermuda Games was produced by Olympic winner Jasmine Camacho-Quinn with 12.67 (-2.5) WL at the 100 m hurdles. Also opening meet of the 3rd year of World Athletics Continental Tour Gold, unfortunately, the events were marked by a strong wind, partly rain, humidity. Another Olympic winner Steven Gardiner after a strong finish won the 200 m in 20.79 (-4.7) ahead of World Indoor 400 m champion Jereem Richards at 20.86. Triple Olympic 400 m medalist Kirani James controlled the men´s 400 m field in 45.63 ahead of British surprise Alex Haydock-Wilson 46.05. Canadian relay Olympic medalist Jerome Blake surprised favorites in the men´s 100 m final with 10.38 (-5.6), just edging Erriyon Knighton and Noah Lyles both 10.39. In the women’s final, Teahna Daniels went 11.45 (-5.2) over Olympic 200 m medalist Gabrielle Thomas at 11.49 (in heats 11.29, -3.3) and Javianne Oliver at 11.62. Shericka Jackson won the women’s 400 m in 51.40, Anthonique Strachan women 200 m in 23.24 (-5.0). Ajee Wilson nicely controlled women 800 m in 2:03.09. In the Jamaican fight, Shiann Salmon at 400 m hurdles with 55.35 beats more experienced team-mates Rushell Clayton with 55.89 and Janieve Russell at 56.56. In the absence of Grant Holloway, who did not want to risk in strong wind, Shane Brathwaite won the men’s hurdles 13.78 (-3.8). In Erik Sowinski paced 1500 m Kenyan wins for Kamar Etiang 3:45.26. Shanieka Ricketts 14.15 (+1.3) and Naomi Metzger of Britain 14.00 (+1.5) were competing at the beginning in the women’s triple jump with still good wind. Later Chris Benard men’s triple 16.57 (+5.0) and Quanesha Burks women’s long jump 677 (3.6) ahead of Chanice Porter 670 (+2.8). Rachel McCoy led the group of four jumpers and won with 184 the high jump on count-back.
