Race days were always different in high school. I recall running track meets at Riordan High School in San Francisco. The track was almost square and we had huge winds hitting us in the face on two sides, and we had to be very precise when we made our move. I recall in the two mile, after having run the mile, waiting for seven and a half laps before my team mate, Pete Dolan and I went 1,2. Pete made his move much more decisively and took the win. I had a bit of a battle with a Riordan athlete and we did not separate until the last 30 meters or so.
It was a fun meet, but we were sure tired afterward.
