This is Good Friday. It is also the weekend prior to the Boston Marathon. For most years since 1990, I would spend a week to ten days in Boston around the marathon. It is where I met our advertisers, wrote about the event, caught up with the running community and enjoyed time with my friends.
In 1987, I was pushing Adam, my son, asleep in his stroller, near the finish, to watch the top elite athletes finish the race. Thirty years later, Adam would join me in Boston to help with coverage of the events, doing some work for adidas among others. In 2013, Adam jumped on a plane to make sure I was okay, after the bombing. He got kidded by Boston’s finest when he tried to retrieve my clothes and passport from the Charlesmark hotel, in front of where the bombing had happened. I had to go to London to cover the marathon, and Adam filmed my interviews. It was a strange year, and it took me a couple of years before I could speak about the experience.

Boston happens this Monday. I wish I was there, but I had heart surgery two weeks ago. I am doing well, and working out and trying to take care of myself. I will, like many of you, watch Boston via Peacock TV.
