This Men’s 100m is probably the finest 100 meters field in my recent memory. Putting together the top medalists, top competitors and some of the most colorful characters in sport is what our sport needs to do to build interest in the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon this coming July 2022!

2020 TOKYO MEN’S 100 METER GOLD MEDALIST LAMONT MARCELL JACOBS TO COMPETE IN THE PREFONTAINE CLASSIC IN MAY FOR THE FIRST TIME EVER
Jacobs’ First Time Competing on U.S. Soil Will be at the 47th Nike Prefontaine Classic Track Meet in Eugene Oregon, May 27-28, 2022
Eugene, Ore. (April 20, 2022) – The Nike Prefontaine Classic, the premier professional track & field competition in the U.S., announced its Men’s 100 Meter lineup for its annual event, and includes all three of 2020 Tokyo Games medalists: Lamont Marcell Jacobs (ITA), Fred Kerley (USA) and Andre De Grasse (CAN). Jacobs, who electrified the track and field world by winning gold in Tokyo last year, will mark his inaugural race on U.S. soil at The Prefontaine Classic next month. A former long jumper, Jacobs recently won the 60M at the World Athletics Indoor Championships and broke the European indoor record with a 6.41.
A notable addition to the Pre Classic lineup is Christian Coleman (USA), the indoor 60M world record holder and 2019 Pre Classic 100M champion, who did not compete in the Tokyo Games.
“I am honored and excited to be part of this year’s Prefontaine Classic at the University of Oregon in Eugene,” said Jacobs. “It’s going to be my first race in the U.S. since the Tokyo Olympics and the adrenaline is already pumping. Can’t wait to feel the track beneath my feet!”

The Prefontaine Classic will be held on May 27 and 28, at the iconic and newly reimagined Hayward Field at the University of Oregon in Eugene. More than 200 of the world’s best male and female athletes will compete in various competitions throughout the two-day event, which will air live on NBC and will be live-streamed worldwide. The Pre Classic is part of the Wanda Diamond League, an annual worldwide series of elite track and field athletic competitions.
