Boston, MA – Conventures, Inc. today announced that the 46th running of the Boston 10K for Women, presented by REI Co-op, will return to the streets of Boston and Cambridge on Saturday, October 8. The largest all-women’s sporting event in New England is tentatively scheduled for a 9:00 a.m. start, with more than 4,000 women anticipated to compete.
Event registration will open on International Women’s Day, Tuesday, March 8, exactly seven months before the excitement returns to Boston Common. Race registration will be conducted online at www.boston10kforwomen.org, and will open at 10:00 a.m.
The race brings girls and women from nearly 50 states to the Boston Common for a morning of wellness and racing, with participants hailing from all backgrounds and abilities. “We’re thrilled to return to the roads this October and to see so many joyous women reunite with each other and the sport they love,” said race founder and director, Dusty Rhodes. “We’re excited to have a date on the calendar for women of all ages to circle and anticipate.”
Also in celebration of International Women’s Day, the event will host a celebratory group run with REI on Saturday, March 5 from REI Fenway. The free event is open to all and will reunite runners who bonded through a 2021 pre-event run club, and new runners ready to begin their 2022 race training. Sign up for the March 5th group run is free and can be accessed here: www.runsignup.com/Race/
“We’re proud to partner on this historic race and to engage with and support women at various points on their running journey,” said Monika Bach, REI’s regional manager of local marketing. “New to our partnership in year two, the International Women’s Day group run will kick-off another inspiring year of celebrating an inclusive running community and a great way to spend time outside as we approach the warmer spring weather.”
The 2022 race marks the second year that REI has served as the presenting sponsor. The outdoor retailer, with five locations in Massachusetts, will bring months of pre-race programming, events, and engagement to runners.
The Boston 10K for Women is the second longest-running all-women’s race in the world, and since 1977 has attracted a world-class field of elite runners, while mothers, daughters, sisters, and friends celebrate women’s strength, speed, and solidarity. American Weini Kelati set an event record in 2021 with her 31:18 performance. The event features hours of pre-race and post-race athletic and wellness programming to complement the flat and fast 6.2-mile course through Boston’s Back Bay.
