NEW YORK, NY, Jan. 13, 2022 – As the calendar turns to 2022, the collegiate indoor track & field season is heating up. One marquee meet to especially get excited about is the annual Historically Black Colleges & Universities Showcase, scheduled for Saturday, January 15th at The Armory’s New Balance Track & Field Center.
This meet pays tribute to the rich history of America’s HBCU institutions.
“The HBCU Showcase is a great opportunity to bridge the gap between academics and athletics,” said Bassett Thompson, Director of Track & Field at The Armory. “The Showcase is so much more than a track & field event. Welcoming Historically Black Colleges and Universities to The Armory on Martin Luther King Jr. weekend speaks volumes on our long-standing commitment to making the dream for so many local student-athletes a reality – becoming future leaders in their communities and across the nation.”
HBCU and other colleges confirmed to participate in Saturday’s meet at The Armory include:
Central State (Ohio), men and women.
Coppin State (Md), men.
Delaware State, men and women.
Howard University (District of Columbia), men and women.
Lincoln University (Pa.), men and women.
Monroe College (Bronx), men and women.

The HBCU Showcase made its debut at The Armory in 2018. This is the fourth edition of this meet and is now considered a staple on The Armory’s January calendar.
Academic representatives from Central State, Clark Atlanta University, Delaware State, Howard, Lincoln, Morgan State, Prairie View A&M, University of Maryland Eastern Shore, University of the District of Columbia and Voohees College also will be at The Armory to participate in a College Fair to share admission information about their respective school to high school students in attendance.
“It was our intention to introduce the unique culture of the HBCU schools to our NYC track and field athletes, with this year’s HBCU Showcase,” said Rita Finkel, Armory Foundation Co-President. “We are delighted the college admission officers will be on hand to meet some of our talented students, who have their eyes on the future.”
The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 AM on Saturday.
