This is Day six, week 3 of the Brooks/RBR Spring Middle Distance Daily Track Training. The Chinese philospher Lao-Tse noted, centures ago, “The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step”.
That could have been said by Des Linden. In her racing, whether it is on the cross country courses in Italy, the marathons of major cities and track races, both indoors and outdoors, it is about the challenge and how one manages those challenges.

Consider that last year, Des Linden set a new WR for 50k, of 2:59.54. That means she ran 26.2 miles at under six minute pace, and then, ran 4.8 more miles just over mid five minute pace!
That’s not the hardest part of being a distance runner. It is the day to day runs, as one only gets better by training , day in, day out, and knowing when to take it easy and when to push it. Des Linden gets that.
Before than, Des ran cross country and the 1,500m and 800m in high school, and cross country and the 5k in college. It took her twelve years of running to show her true talents.
