Long runs and long walks now, are a most personal time. They are a mental reawakening. Something about 70 minutes to 2 hours on the trails, whether with one self or some friends, and hearing that one bird, or seeing that one ray of sunlight through the redwoods. Yesterday, I drove up Pierce road by Stevens Creek Park, and was transported back to run in the late 1970s. I can remember running up the road with Bob Lucas, pushing one hill after another, just the sound of breathing (actually gasping) as we got into that zen place you find when you listen to your heart pumping and legs lifting, taking one step, one moment, as your only presense.
Enjoy the run. Write your own memories. Enjoy the present, the breathing, the effort.
