I was getting my first coffee of the day when Coach Smith told me that Blessing Okagbare had run a 10.63.
Within an hour, we saw that Blessing Okagbare had run a wind-aided 10.63 (2.7 wind at time) at the Nigerian Championships.
I congratulated Rana Reider, coach of Blessing, who was relaxing before the U.S. Olympic Trials begin in a day. Rana coaches a cadre of global athletes, under the Tumbleweed TC. His athletes, like Trayvon Brommell, just ran 9.77, his lifetime PB. His athlete, Omar McLeod, just ran 13.01 at the 110m hurdles and told media that he saw places for improvement.
Rana suggested that he was not surprised by Blessing Okagbara.
One has to look forward to the 100m at Tokyo.
Okagbare windy 10.63
LAGOS (NGR, Jun 17): Fast sprints at the opening day of the Nigerian Olympic Trials. Blessing Okagbare after 10.99 in the semifinals clocked super fast 10.63 in the final, but no record as aided by +2.7. Enoch Adegoke is currently in the best shape of his life as he stormed to a new PB to win the men´s 100 m final in 10.00 (+1.2).
