Damian Warner is one of the finest decathletes in the world. His Olympic bronze in 2016 Rio and his 3 World Championship medals, silver in 2015 Beijing, plus bronzes in 2013 Moscow and 2019 Doha merely suggest at how good the Canadian decathlete is.

GOTZIS (AUT, May 30): Damian Warner moved to fifth-best performance (and fourth performer) on the all-time list for the decathlon, added 200 points to his Canadian record with 8995 at the famous Hypomeeting (WA CE Challenge). After his world-best day-one score yesterday, including world decathlon long jump best, he added another world best with 13.36 in the 110m hurdles, beating his own mark. He had a 48.43m discus and a 4.80m pole vault. He may have hoped for more than 59.46m to break the 9000-point barrier, although he finished on another high with 4:25.19 in the 1500m to secure his record sixth Hypomeeting win. Pierce Lepage was second with 8534 and Thomas van der Plaetsen third with 8431 – both PBS. Behind another PB for Vitally Zhuk (8331), world champion Niklas Kaul was fifth with 8263.
