British media: Gateshead in DL
GATESHEAD (GBR): Athletics Weekly writes that Gateshead is to replace Rabat on this year’s Wanda Diamond League calendar on May 23. An official announcement is expected on Friday, and British media are writing. Doubt over the Rabat meeting was reported last week due to the pandemic. Britain traditionally has hosted two Diamond League meetings per season, and Gateshead was due to be part last year before the pandemic interrupted plans, but UK Athletics gave up the slot for 2021. Dina Asher-Smith and Mo Farah are mentioned as possible to compete. Should the current Government roadmap stay on track, the event would take place a week after the next phase of restrictions is lifted. This would mean 4000 spectators could be permitted at sporting events, although the Gateshead figure could be nearer 2000 to 3000.
