A new marathon begins the year, and it is in Bangladesh!
First fast marathon times of the year
DHAKA (BAN, Jan 10): Inaugural edition of the Dhaka Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Marathon in Bangladesh brought first fast times of 2021. Moroccan Marrakech winner Hicham Laqouahi won men in 2:10:41 and fulfilled the favorite role ahead another runner from his country Aziz Lahbabi 2:10:51 debut. Third Kenyan Jacob Kendagor 2:13:12 over Sammy Kigen 2:14:02 and Lesotho´s record holder Motlokoa Nkhabutlane 2:14:34. In the field as 6th also Ukrainian Mykola Iukhymchuk 2:15:02. Kenyan women win for Venice Marathon winner 2018, Angela Tanui in 2:29:04 beating Ethiopians Fantu Jimma 2:32:31 and Biruktayit Degefa 2:35:16. Fourth Susan Jeptoo running for France 2:37:07. In the half distance Edwid Kiptoo 1:04:11 over Dawit Admasu 1:04:29, in the women category Naom Jebet 1:14:42. Limited number of 200 participants started at 6.30 am, after 15 minutes another 200 participants started for the half distance. The marathon course had 5 laps.
