Launched her running career at Singore Girls School, Rose Thomson posted the best time in Africa in 3,000 metres in 1977 and represented Kenya in the Commonwealth Games in 1978. She made it to the Kenyan national team for the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow. pic.twitter.com/rEoS5Q4WuZ

NAIROBI (KEN): Athletics Kenya is to honour several of the country’s all-time greats as part of its 70th anniversary celebrations on Tuesday. The athletes include Wilson Kiprugut, who in 1964 at 800m won Kenya’s first Olympic medal, plus legends such as Kipchoge Keino, John Ngugi and Paul Tergat, A new name and logo will also be unveiled. Initially called the Kenya Amateur Athletics Association, it was rebranded in 2002.

The Late Nyandika Maiyoro was among the Kenyan runners at the 1956 Olympic Games in Melbourne, Australia. He participated in men’s 5000m finishing an impressive 7th position in13 minutes, 53.25 seconds. We celebrate you. #AK@70 pic.twitter.com/ELTCaIa93r
