The long road to recovery can not be underestimated. In 2014, I had a conversation with Wilson Kipketer, and we spoke about his battle to get back to his elite competitions. Wilson told me that he came back way too fast.
Wayde Van Niekerk has come back to his level of fitness, but do not discount that getting back to 43 second 400m shape takes a long, long time.
We wish Wayde best wishes.

PRETORIA (RSA): World 400m record-holder Wayde van Niekerk has confirmed he has ended his 2020 season. The South African, who had competed over 400m and 60m in recent weeks, said: “We did consider competing again in Potch this week, but we’ve achieved what we had hoped to get out of these last couple of races. We know what to focus on now, so we can go back to training and concentrate on preparing for the 2021 season. I look forward to racing again next year.” From iol.co.za. He will focus on a tough training block until mid December. Informs his agent Peet Van Zyl. “Wayde feels he would benefit more from going into a tough training block now he and coach and some of her group will go to a training camp,” said Van Zyl.
