EA E-CONVENTION
LAUSANNE (SUI): Sport in a pandemic era was the main theme of day two of the European Athletics e-Convention. Bislett Games meeting director Steinar Hoen spoke about adapting his event to create the Impossible Games. Czech Athletics President Libor Varhanik talked about the #BackOnTheTrack programme to stage 173 meetings across the country when restrictions eased, making it the first country to resume athletics competition nationwide after lockdown. Professor Kingston Mills spoke about the pandemic and medical and sanitary perspective.
LAUSANNE (SUI): In the afternoon session, World Athletics Executive Director of Communications Jackie Brock-Doyle and timing specialist and solutions provider MYLAPS Commercial Director Maurice Timmermans both shared their experiences of adapting their respective strategies during the pandemic. Despite the severe disruption to the competition calendar, Brock-Doyle reported all of World Athletics’ social media accounts still experienced significant growth during the initial months of lockdown courtesy of their successful Athletics@Home campaign which informed, engaged and entertained fans across the world.
