European Athletics 400m champ was one of the many excellent athletes competing in European national championships, special thanks to EME News and team (Steve Mills, Paul Halford, Alfons Juck) who give us global news each and every day.
NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
LUTSK (UKR, Aug 29-30): Alina Shukh won the heptathlon at the Ukrainian Championships with a score of 6215 points ahead of former world champion Hanna Kasyanova with 5962 points. Her husband Oleksiy Kasyanov also won the decathlon title with 7716 points. Andriy Protsenko cleared a season’s best of 2.30m to win the men’s high jump title from Dmytro Yakovenko at 2.26m and with Mahuchikh and Levchenko both absent, Oksana Okuneva won the women’s high jump title with a season’s best of 1.92m. Other day two highlights included Hanna Ryzhykova winning the 400m flat in a 51.70 PB from Kateryna Klymyuk in 51.84, also a PB, and Viktoriya Tkachuk winning the 400m hurdles in 55.60. Olha Lyakhova also won the 800m in 2:03.49. On the first day, Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk won the long jump with 6.81m (also had a jump of 6.80m in the sixth round), Iryna Klymets and Myhaylo Kokhan won the hammer titles with 71.71m and 75.39m respectively, Yaroslav Isachenkov set a PB of 7.97m in the long jump and Maryna Kylypko won the pole vault with 4.40m.
WLOCLAWEK (POL, Aug 29-30): On the second and third day of the Polish Championships, Justyna Swiety-Ersetic won the 400m title in 51.44 from Iga Baumgart-Witan (52.14) and Malgorzata Holub-Kowalik (52.23), Joanna Jozwik edged out Angelika Cichocka in the 800m, 2:04.52 to 2:04.64 and Kryzstof Roznicki, who turned 17 yesterday, won the men’s 800m title from European fourth-placer Michal Rozmys, 1:47.73 to 1:47.80. Also on the track Karolina Koleczek won the 100m hurdles in 13.04 and Joanna Linkiewicz won the 400m hurdles in 56.23. There were good winning marks in the javelin: 83.51m for Marcin Krukowski and 62.66m for Maria Andrejczyk. European shot put champion Paulina Guba set a season’s best of 18.09 to win her national title and reigning European indoor champion Pawel Wojciechowski cleared 5.61m in the pole vault. There was a surprise result in the men’s discus with Bartlomiej Stoj upsetting the major medal winners. He won the competition with 63.05m ahead of training partners Robert Urbanek (62.48m) and Piotr Malachowski (60.15m). European champion Michal Haratyk also won the shot put with 20.64m ahead of Konrad Bukowiecki with 19.97m. Karol Zalewski won the 400 m in 46.35 and Patryk Dobek hurdles 50.07.
SANTRY (IRL, Aug 29-30): Marcus Lawler in 20.95 (+0.8) and Phil Healy 23.57 (+1.5) were winners of the 200 m races at the national championships. Michelle Finn clocked 9:59.72 in steeple. On Saturday, Sean Tobin won the 10 000 m in 29:35.14 and Briton Callum Wilkinson clocked PB in the 10 000 m walk 39:52.05.
UTRECHT (NED, Aug 29-30): During first day of Dutch Championships, Joris Van Gool won the 100 m in 10.17 (+1.1), among women hurdler Nadine Visser 11.25 (+1.2) ahead of Marije van Hunenstijn 11.32 and Naomi Sedney 11.33. Mike Foppen won the 5000 m in 13:36.37 and Diane van Es 15:44.50. Heptathlete Anouk Vetter won long jump 624 (+2.0) and Jessica Schilder 18.27 PB in shot put. Second day was very windy. Taymir Burnet won the 200 m in 20.35 (+5.2), Lieke Klaver women final in 22.95 (+1.8). Jochem Dobber clocked 46.59 in the 400 m, Nadine Visser 13.10 (+0.9) in hurdles (12.97 in heats). Menno Vloon cleared 575 in the pole vault, Lisanne Schol 59.53 in javelin.
PADOVA (ITA, Aug 29-30): Top result of Italian Championships was the European shot put lead 21.99 (also PB) by Leonardo Fabbri (second South African Zane Weir improved to 20.31). Anticipated 100 m final was won by Lamont Marcell Jacobs in 10.10 (+3.3) as Filippo Tortu after 10.41 (+0.7) in semifinals did not run because of preparation for the Golden Gala meet. Gianmarco Tamberi cleared good 228 in the high jump, also to note Edoardo Scotti 45.77 in the 400 m. Antonio Infantino won the 200 m in 20.71 (+0.3), in hurdles Lorenzo Perini 13.53 (+1.7) and Mario Lambrughi 49.84. Andrea Dallavalle got 16.79 (+1.1) in triple jump. In women events, Luminosa Bogliolo 13.02 (-0.2) and Ayomide Folorunso 56.47 in the hurdles. Zaynab Dosso won windy 100 m in 11.35 (+2.2), U20 Dalia Kaddari 23.30 (-0.1) in the 200 m. Elena Vallortigara cleared 188 in high jump and young Larisa Iapichino 632 (-1.7) in long jump.
TRNAVA (SVK, Aug 29-30): Great national record in virtually solo race (second place over 60) by Emma Zapletalova 55.19 in the 400 m hurdles highlighted Slovak Championships on Sunday. On Saturday Stanislava Skvarkova clocked two meet records at 100 m hurdles, 13.12 (+0.2) in heats and 13.11 (-0.1) in the finals. Jan Volko returned with double from injury, 10.45 (-0.6) and 21.36 (-2.7) in sprints. Tomas Veszelka won triple 16.61 (+0.2) and good hammer wins for Marcel Lomnicky 76.47 and Martina Hrasnova 70.71, for both season bests. Solid 400 m winners were Iveta Putalova 53.19 and Simon Bujna 46.68. Gabriela Gajanova clocked 2:03.16 in the 800 m. U20 Liza Hazuchova won the 5000 m in Slovak U20 record 16:36.84. Also in 4×100 m women Slovak club record by OSG Nitra 45.81.
