In the 800m final, Brazier was poised to move. He hit the 400m in just 49 seconds and by 500 meters, that long stride and high arm stride was doing what it does best-move away from his competitors.
What I noticed about Donavan was that win changed him. The scuttlebutt had been tough on Donavan. Was he able to win the big ones? Could he hold up under pressure?

In Doha, Donavan Brazier answered all of the questions on this athlete, with his gold medal.

His first article, on Don Bowden, America's first sub-4 minute miler, was published in RW in 1983.
