This is the note sent out by the NYRR to explain the cancellation of events for 30 days, due to the coronavirus.
NYRR’S STATEMENT REGARDING 30-DAY CANCELLATION OF EVENTS AND PROGRAMS
New York, March 13, 2020 – At New York Road Runners, the health and welfare of our staff and the running community is our top priority. Due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and consistent with the guidance we have received from New York City and State government officials, including restrictions on large public gatherings, NYRR will cancel all in-person NYRR events, group training, and community programing for 30 days, beginning today.
The 30-day cancellation period includes two upcoming race events in Central Park, the UAE Healthy Kidney 10K on March 28, and Boomer’s Cystic Fibrosis Run to Breathe 4M on April 5. Additional cancellations include the Rising New York Road Runners youth race at Van Cortlandt Park on April 4, and youth events at Icahn Stadium on April 3 and April 8. We will continue to monitor the situation and make decisions on the status of future events in the weeks ahead.
Runners registered for NYRR events and programs impacted by the 30-day cancellation period will receive communications from NYRR over the coming days.
The NYRR RUNCENTER featuring the New Balance Run Hub, a gathering place for the running community, will be closed through March 29.
NYRR will continue to monitor this rapidly developing situation and provide updates on the status on all events, group training, and community programming on nyrr.org.
