Well, running in the times of the coronavirus is about running among cancelled everything.
And it is going to be like this for some time.
My suggestion? Go find Alan Sillitoe’s The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner…or check out the movie!
NYRR’S STATEMENT ON CANCELLATION OF EVENTS THROUGH MAY 10
New York, March 18, 2020 – New York Road Runners shares our deepest sympathies with everyone impacted by the coronavirus outbreak as we navigate through these difficult times. Our concern for the health and well-being of the people of New York City and the global running community is first and foremost in our hearts and minds.
As we continue to monitor the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, and in accordance with the recommendation of the CDC concerning the cancellation of large events for eight weeks, all in-person NYRR events, group training, and community programming are canceled through May 10. The NYRR RUNCENTER featuring the New Balance Run Hub will remain closed through April 12.
The eight-week period includes two previously announced race cancellations, the UAE Healthy Kidney 10K on March 28 and Boomer’s Cystic Fibrosis Run to Breathe 4M & Walk brought to you by UnitedHealthcare on April 5; and four additional race cancellations, the SHAPE + Health Women’s Half Marathon & 5.8M on April 19, the Run as One 4M & Health Walk presented by JPMorgan Chase on April 26, the NYRR Newport Fiesta 5K on May 2, and the Japan Run 4M on May 10.
Runners registered for canceled events will have the opportunity to select either a TCS New York City Marathon qualifier credit or complimentary entry into a future race. NYRR will contact runners to make their selection once the resumption of our race calendar is determined.
All Rising New York Road Runners free youth events, jamborees and races are canceled through May 10 as well.
NYRR will continue to monitor this evolving situation and follow the recommendations and guidance of city, state and federal officials on when we can safely resume our race schedule, including the status of the Popular® Brooklyn Half on May 16 and other events later in May and June.
