LAUSANNE (SUI): With two weeks to go until the 2019 edition of Athletissima, the organisers have unveiled some more big names coming to Lausanne to light up the stadium on Friday, 5 July. There will be no less than 49 Olympic and World medallists, 28 European medallists, and a total of 46 athletes currently ranked in the top 3 of the world rankings. Leading the star-studded line-up, the Russian, Mariya Lasitskene after her 206 in Ostrava. In the 100 m, the duel between old and young, with the veterans Justin Gatlin (USA, 37 years) and Michael Rodgers (USA, 34 years), against the new generation represented by Filippo Tortu (ITA, 21 years). In the 200m, the line-up is as promising, with the presence of last year’s winner, the American, Noah Lyles, nearly 22 years old and also representing this new generation of sprinters with a bright future. He will be racing against several others: the Canadian, Andre de Grasse, who won last night in Ostrava; the current World and European Champion, the Turk, Ramil Guliyev; the Frenchman, Christophe Lemaître; and last but not least, the Swiss star, Alex Wilson, who finished third in the European Championships. In the 800m, the world’s best will be present, notably the Canadian, Brandon McBride, with a world season third best performance in 2019, and the Kenyans Ferguson Cheruiyot Rotich and Emmanuel Kipkurui Korir. In a race that is shaping up to be fast, the current European Champion from Poland, Adam Kszczot, will also be looking for success.
