The high jump is an event that entrances. The jump converts horizontal motion with a huge change to verticarl motion, all the time, attempting to clear a height. The event ends, not with a clearance, but a series of 3 misses. Fans are fascinated as the athletes, some of the finest in all of athletics, are swift, emotional, and simply stunning.
The high jump is always a draw in Stockholm, one of my favorite venues in all of Europe. The 1912 Olympic stadium has been the home of many events and many of the greats have raced, jumped and thrown.
Do not miss this meeting, held on May 30!
BAUHAUS-galan IAAF Diamond League, Stockholm
Fantastic high jump field at BAUHAUS-galan on 30 May
Does Sweden’s Erika Kinsey have a chance for victory?
On Friday in Doha Erika Kinsey finished second in the high jump at the first Diamond League meeting of the season – her best ever position at this level of competition. At BAUHAUS-galan on 30 May she will face the six best ranked women in the world, including the number one, the dominant World and European Champion, Mariya Lasitskene. Can Erika Kinsey take one more step up and challenge for victory at Stockholm Olympic Stadium?
– Last year’s competition in Stockholm is my best memory from BAUHAUS-galan! I set my season best in wonderful conditions and came third. I’m really looking forward to this year’s meeting, said Erika who, in Doha, shared second place with Olympic silver medallist Mirela Demireva and beat 2017 European Indoor Champion Airine Palsyte.
BAUHAUS-galan offers a good opportunity to jump high but a jump over 2 metres is probably needed for a win. Erika’s personal best is 1.97m but she has, without doubt, the capacity to jump higher than that.
Lasitskene vs new star Yaroslava Mahuchikh
The first six in the current high jump world ranking are confirmed for BAUHAUS-galan, including world number one, Mariya Lasitskene, who has won 60 of her 62 competitions since 2016.
Also included on the start list is world silver medallist Yulia Levchenko, together with the above-mentioned, Mirela Demireva, and also the young super-talent from Ukraine, Yaroslava Mahuchikh, who was the winner in Doha last Friday. At 17 years and 226 days she became the youngest ever female winner of a Diamond League event.
