Katherina Heinig is German athletic royalty. Her mother, her coach, is Katrin Dorre Heinig. Her father, Wolfgang Heinig, is also a national coach, working with German distance runners, primarily 2018 European Champ at steeple, Geza Felicitas Krause. Her rmother is the iconic Katrin Dorre, one of Germany’s finest marathoners in the 1980s and 1990s, prior to reunification.

During the near hour prior to the arrival of Arne Gabius, Katherina politely took questions in German from the interested local media.
I asked Katherina to describe her buildup for Frankfurt. This was done in English. Katherina noted that she had been married in Septemberrr, and made a last minute decision to race in Frankfurt. Heinirg has trained six weeks for this race. While Heinig admits that she would have liked more time, she noted she felt that the training went well. Heinig wants 2:30, and would love a 2:29.28-giving her fastest time in Germany for women.
How will Katherina do in 2018? I think a 2:30 is very doable. The coolness will be to her liking an the lack of pressure means she can focus on racing.
