Chicago-Area Runners Keep the Tradition Alive by Continuing the St. Patrick’s Day Celebration With an 8K Run and Two-Mile Walk Through Downtown
CHICAGO – Get ready to go green at the 40th anniversary of the Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle! Registration for the 40th annual Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle opens today at 10 a.m. Central Time at shamrockshuffle.com For four decades, many runners have considered this long-standing Chicago tradition the official start of the outdoor running season, and a popular way to continue the St. Patrick’s Day celebration in Chicago. The event will feature a festive and upbeat 8K run with music and entertainment, as well as a two-mile walk along Chicago’s picturesque lakefront.
“The Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle is one of this city’s most celebrated running traditions,” said Executive Race Director Carey Pinkowski. “It brings the city of Chicago together on race day to dust off their running shoes, party a little and rekindle their desire to get up and go run. We love the spirit of the Shuffle.”
The Shamrock Shuffle will be held on Sunday, March 24, 2019 and will welcome thousands of runners to a one-of-a-kind 8K (4.97-mile) experience that weaves its way through Chicago’s Loop, starting and finishing in Grant Park. For competitive runners, the course is fast and flat; for non-competitive runners, it’s a scenic loop through the heart of downtown. And for those who want to enjoy the walk, they will stroll over a two-mile course along Chicago’s lakefront, starting and finishing in the same location as the 8K.
“The Bank of America Shamrock Shuffle is really the race that has it all in Chicago: it attracts some of the best runners in the nation with its elite competition, it offers a PR experience for serious runners, and it’s a massive celebration and running party for beginners, families, friends, recreational and long-time runners,” continued Pinkowski. “We are thrilled to be turning 40 this year and we are ready to see Chicago go green on March 24.”
Individuals interested in joining the fun and being a part of the anniversary field are encouraged to sign up early and save. Those who sign up during the first week of registration for the 8K run will receive a $40 discounted entry fee to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the event. After September 19, the race entry fee will increase to $45 and continue to increase until the race has reached its capacity.
The walk will be $35, and registration will close once the event has reached its 1,500-person capacity.
