BUENOS AIRES (ARG, Sep 23): The unknown Kenyan Emmanuel Saina Kipkemboi won the Buenos Aires Marathon on his debut in a South American all-comers’ record of 2:05:21 (62:53/62:28), breaking the course record of 2:09:46. He had before only half best 62:03. Teammate Barnabas Kiptum was second in 2:09:19 with Peru’s Cristhian Pacheco third in 2:11:19 to win the South American title. Vivian Kiplagat made it a Kenyan double in the women’s race in 2:29:04 ahead of teammate Leah Jerotich (2:32:58) and Ethiopia’s Amelework Bosho (2:34:56). Ecuador’s Rosa Chacha was fifth in 2:35:29 to win the South American title.
