The marathons were held on the sixth day of the European Championships. With four laps of 10k plus one lap of 2.195 meters. Over 150,000 fans watched the races develop. Both races were fascinating, with the womens coming down to the final meters, and only nine seconds between gold, silver and bronze.
Volha Mazuronak of Belarus took the gold with a final charge, running 2:26:22. In silver, in her debut, Clemence Calvin of France, battled until the final 200 meters, running 2:26.28. In bronze, Eva Vrabcova-Nyvlotova, of Czech Republish scored a NR of 2:26.31.
In the Men’s race, the Usual suspects before the race did not perform. Koen Naert of Belgium took the win in a CR of 2:09:51. Tadesse Abraham of Switzerland took the silver in 2:11:24. In bronze position, Yassine Rachik of Italy scored a PB with his 2:12.09.
