The evening session in Berlin on Day 1 was tremendously hot. With temperatures at 101 F or 38 degrees Celcius , the temperatures began to cool down a bit, but the addition of the heat and humidity affects all of the athletes.
Poland won the hammer throw and shot put, actually taking gold and silver in both! In the 100 meters, GBR won gold in both men and women and added silver in the men’s race. For France, the tight win in the 10,000 meters started the medal run for France, who had just been surprised by Kevin Mayer’s tragedy in the Decathlon Long Jump.
