Altra Duo $130
Altra has dipped a toe into the water with a shoe that features their characteristic zero-drop, and a new approach with Max cushion. The result is the Duo.
The upper features a supportive, closed mesh which also features a lightweight, framework of fused overlays, smooth lined ankle collar, and sueded tongue, which while not plush, offers good comfort. What is plush is the midsole of the shoe. A significant layer of foam offers good resilience and plenty of cushion. The outersole has two densities of rubber, high abrasion at touch-down and toe-off, regular abrasion rubber over most of the heel and toe, and a mid-foot of toughened foam. The result is another alternative to running recovery, though also great for faster runs as well.
Testers: “Well cushioned, I mean very well cushioned. Lots of room in the toes, which I liked, not having tried Altra before. It was great for recovery and long training runs, even doing a pretty good job for tempo runs.”
